Tutorial: Generating a list of all installed codecs/filters

1) Run the Codec Tweak Tool.

Start -> Programs -> K-Lite Codec Pack -> Tools -> Codec Tweak Tool

If you haven't got the K-Lite Codec Pack installed, then you can download the Codec Tweak Tool here:
http://www.codecguide.com/download_other.htm#codectweaktool

2) Select the option to generate a text file.

The screenshots below show the recommended settings.

Generally we are only interested in 'System Information' and 'DirectShow filters'. So select just those.

You should select the options to hide items that belong to Windows and also filters with a merit that equal MERIT_DO_NOT_USE. Those are not of interest. Excluding them helps to keep the list smaller, and thus easier to review.
