TiVo => DVD ???

Postby cia_viewer on Fri Aug 29, 2008 4:37 pm

I have used TiVo Desktop 2.6.1 to copy one of several programs from my HD-TiVo to my WinXP PC.

I have downloaded MPEG_Streamclip_1.2 with QuickTimeAlt181
as well as TyTool10r4

I also have Roxio Creator LE...

I am lost in this 'tower of babel'! I am out of my league with video files.

The programs are on my PC as *.tivo files. I want to put them on DVDs in a usable form for later viewing on my DVD Player (Sony SONDVPNS725P).

Help, Please!

Following a suggestion, I downloaded 'DirectShow Dump' utility and ran it to decrypt my file.tivo to file.mpg.

The new file was about the same size as original.

I used Roxio 'MyDVD LE' to burn the .mpg file onto a 4.7GB DVD. The DVD played successfully.

The program, viewed from the DVD, was a little grainer than the original (480p).

Is that par for the course, or operator error?

If the Roxio program re-encoded the video, then yes, that would explain the quality loss.

Yes, looking at the files on the DVD, It is a different file structure instead of simply the .mpg file I asked it to burn.

Do you know of a way around this?

Roxio MyDVD offers the quality choices: 'Fit-to-DVD'; HQ(High Quality); SP; LP; EP.

DVDs must have that specific structure. Otherwise they are unplayable.

I can't help you with that Roxio stuff. I know nothing about that.

You could try the program called DVDStyler.

Thank you for your response.

I downloaded DVDStyler. It seems to be intended for creating menus and a user interface for a group of video files.

I notice that any DVD I play on my DVD Player (Sony SONDVPNS725P) to my HDTV has the resolution indicated by 'TV Info' as 480i (interlaced). The professionally recorded DVDs look sharper.

The original program recorded from an analog station in my TiVo has the resolution indicated by 'TV Info' as 480p (progressive).

I have a THEORY that half of the video data is not being used and half is being used twice?

Are there any utilities to convert progressive video data to interlaced video data?

The video authoring programs like 'VideoReDo' seem to be intent on removing advertising, Etc. . I have no need to do that. I am concerned with the full resolution (480p to 480i translation?).
