what's wrong with it? one more question:

which settings do I have to take to be able to do screenshots in WMP classic for every video format (avi, mpg, mov, wmv) and is there any disadvantage of applying this setting??

thanks!

Both files contain VC-1 video. Normally that should be playable using the standard Microsoft Windows media decoders.

Go to ffdshow video decoder configuration. On the Codecs page set 'VC-1' to 'libavcodec'. After that you can play these files.

Only the Overlay renderer is not compatible with taking screenshots. All other video renderers will work. I would recommend Haali renderer, that gives best quality. But it will also use a bit extra CPU power. So if that is a problem, use VMR-9 (renderless).

Btw, the correct name is Media Player Classic. It is unrelated to WMP.

ok, thanks so far.

after setting to libavcodec the first video works, the second shows only a black window, when I skip, it just doesn't play, the time stays like being paused.

but the question is: why isn't it the default setting? why does one have to set this option to be able to play these files?

and concerning the haali: is haali a problem for intel core2duo 2*2.4ghz? I think I'm gonna take this :-)

thanks for clearing up concerning MPC and WMPC ;)

The pack will automatically enables that option in ffdshow when it doesn't detect the Microsoft decoder as installed. However, old version of the MS decoder (from WMP10) does not support VC-1, while the newer one does support it.

You can just have a look at the CPU usage during playback. With the Task Manager (ctrl+shift+esc) you can see the CPU usage.

No idea why that happens with the second file.
