Probable regression bug in KLM400

Postby Kurt_Aust on Sat Jul 12, 2008 12:20 am

When installing K-Lite Mega Codec 4.00 unattended on Win XP x64 (lots of stuff), it generates the following error:

C:\Program Files (x86)\K-Lite Codec Pack\Filters\CLVSD.ax
Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x3

Method used for unattended install described here
Archive with screenshot of error and klmcp.ini here

The problem does not occur when using K-Lite Mega Codec 3.95

You are the only one to report such a problem so far.

If I recall correctly code 3 means "access denied", probably while accessing the registry.

I don't have a solution for you at this time.

Does manually registering the file fail too?

Start -> Run -> regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\K-Lite Codec Pack\Filters\CLVSD.ax "

Sure does, but at least it gives the further clue "Invalid access to memory location".

On that basis I thought it might be a DEP error (I run OptOut for increased security), but the problem still exists with DEP set to OptIn (default).

Thanks for the info!

Since nobody else has reported a similar problem and you are installing on what I assume is a new computer, you might want to check if your internal memory is fully working by running some memcheck utility.

I can confirm Kurt_Aust issue.
I'm having same problem, CLVSD.ax cannot be registred.
(codecs package klcodec400f.exe )

even if I'm trying manually.

The memory are in good condition since all others applications work without any issue.

I have tried 2 methods to install:
1 - normal (step by atep ) and
2 - silent - using answer file "klcodec400f.exe /LOADINF="KLF400.inf" /VERYSILENT /SP-" ( KLF400.inf generated running klcodec400f.exe /SAVEINF="KLF400.inf" )

Seem that this kind of error appear for me only in WMWare. I have used on real system too and here work nice, without any error.

Yes, it happens for me too in VMware.

The latest beta of the pack contains a slightly older version of the filter and that works fine in VMware as well.
