MPC-HC 1.3.1249

Postby Arcueid on Thu Sep 17, 2009 9:49 pm

This is 3 weeks that the new version of Media Player Classic Home Cinema is out (v1.3.1249).

Is there a possibility to see the latest version of MPC-HC in the next update of K-Lite Codec?

--------------------

I was impressed by this new release. They change the rendered videos on EVR and VMR9 by correcting the problem of PC (0-255) <-> TC (16-235).
By default, with FFDShow unconfigured, all blacks were washed out.
With this latest version, no more complicated setting in FFDShow for removing blacks washed out. It will be a revolution, for a lots of people.

Plus they modify the code when you move the player between monitors. Which thanks to it, fixed a major bug on my PC. With the older version of MPC-HC (v1.2.1008) on K-Lite Codec 5.1.2, I decoded H264 with CoreAVC + cuda acceleration. The nvidia driver don't like when you move the window of the player from one monitor to another + cuda running. On my Windows 7 the nvidia driver crash and restart, each time I transfer the player to another screen (even BSOD sometimes). I do not encounter this problem more, from 3 weeks with the 1.3.1249 version.

I'm really thankfully to the developer of MPC-HC to do their best on the rendered, giving us more pleasure every time.

I think its about time MPC-HC latest version makes its way to K-Lite codec pack.

I persoanlly had few issues with MPC-HC, but all those issues/bugs are fixed now.

I think the codec pack should be updated with the latest version of MPC-HC now.

Thank you for this great codec pack, been using it since the last 2 years, and it keeps getting better and better. :D

Some bugs were fixed, but several new bugs were added. For example there is a delay of a few seconds when opening files on Windows 7. You may have all had good experiences, but that is certainly not true for everyone. I follow the developments and bug reports very closely and at this moment I am not yet convinced it is a good idea to migrate to the new version.

Manually updating MPC is easy. Simply replace the file "mplayerc.exe" that the pack installed. So everyone can use the version they want if necessary.

It is possible that Full/Mega will include two versions of MPC-HC in the near future. Then users can choose between the new and old one during installation.

Solving the "washed out" video problem can be done with the old MPC as well. Simply activate the "16-235 -> 0-255" shader.

The monitor switching issue is annoying, but can be worked around by stopping the video before moving it to another monitor.

I can confirm the few second delay when opening files on Windows 7. But I'm manually updating anyway because I like new renderer settings. "16-235 -> 0-255" shader is cool but I had to check HD and SD videos after every graphic card driver update and decide if I need SD/HD or just SD. Beacuse ATI (and maybe also Nvidia) sometimes change the way video is rendered too. With the new MPC-HC I don't have to set anything (because everything is already set thanks to KLCP :-) ) and I always get correct video.

Can't confirm delay when opening files on Windows 7. Just don't use "Disable Desktop Composition" (e.g. use default setting) so Window don't have to switch to basic scheme and back to Aero.
"Renderer setting" is "must have" feature. This is the only correct way to get right YUV-RGB conversion regardless of colorspace on ATI card (as UseBT601CSC not works anymore).
Windows Media Player (both x32 and x64) have correct black level out of box, Media Center must be tweaked with registry (NominalRange), MPC-HC have that feature only on new version.

Vote for adding second version of MPC-HC to K-Lite!

Windows scheme is not switching for me but the delay is still very noticeable. Don't know what's causing it or why is it so hard to fix that (considering it worked OK before) but the issue is definitely present. Tested on 2 different PC configurations (one 32bit, one 64bit) with latest 1290 build.

This latest version of mpc-hc whines about that it can not find d3dx9.dll and that I need to install direct x run time.

I use windows 7 and there's directx 11 in it, according to start - run - dxdiag.

MPC needs some components from DirectX 9 that are not included by default in any version of Windows. You can safely install it even when your version of Windows uses a higher DirectX version.

Thanks, I'll install it. The mp-hc version in the codec pack does not need these files, only the latest release from their site. Weird :)

The MPC-HC version in the pack does not require it, meaning it will work without. But it does need it for enabling certain functionality, such as shaders.

It's really amazing how well all this stuff works. 1080P movies with subs and just 20% cpu-activity in a not even released OS (win7) outputted through hdmi to my big lcd-tv (including sound) :-D And totally for free.

Nice job everyone who is responsible ;) Very nice job.

Would be really good to see the newest MPC-HC in the K-Lite why not make a checkbox to choose the newest or the stone age one :)
