[Mega] MainConcept, QuickTime, and H.264

Postby Oscar on Sat Apr 05, 2008 6:55 am

Q1: Given that K-Lite Mega Codec Pack continues to include MainConcept MPEG video codec for very valid compatibility reasons, could the K-Lite Team please put MainConcept MPEG audio codec and splitter back into the pack for consistency?

Q2: It's been awhile since QuickTime Alternative was taken out of K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and reintroduced later. Would the K-Lite Team consider putting it back into the pack?

1. Nope...

because audio codec and splitter is no longer developed
and Gabest and Haali splitter are the best now, for audio you have ffdshow which is the best now too

and the MainConcept video filter give the best error resiliencing and postprocessing that why is still includec in KLCP

2. Nope... because nope xD, CLSID said that in many posts...
but I support that idea, to readd QT Alternative in KLMCP

Thank you very much for your reply. I have to, however, voice my disappointment in K-Lite Team's increasingly strong notion that ffdshow is an acceptable be-all-end-all solution, that its mere existence should allow the removal of all standalone components in a particular category (e.g. MPEG Audio, H.264, etc.). I wouldn't have chosen to use any codec pack in the first place if I had thought that ffdshow were sufficiently versatile for all intents and purposes...... :(

You can use the K-Lite MPEG Pack you really want the other MC stuff. The current codec pack already contains enough MPEG related components.

Thanks a lot for your reply, CLSID. You have mentioned in another thread that there is an open source DXVA-enabled H.264 decoder currently in development, and that it will be included in the future K-Lite Codec Packs. Is there an ETA on when this will happen?

That DXVA filter is not yet mature enough. There are still several compatibility issues with it and certain graphics cards. I hope it will be ready for the big audience in the summer.

ffdshow in many ways is the best solution...

but in:
-H.264 the best is CoreAVC (but removed probably by illegal issue)
-MPEG-4 the best are DivX or Xvid
-MPEG-2 the best is CyberLink
-MPEG-1 the best is MainConcept
in my opionion of course xD

return to ffdshow...
it have 32 bit floating point precision postprocessing audio with dithering and noise shaping

for me, who use Creative SBm using ffdshow is the best opion for sound quality ;)

P.S. CLSID - nice to heard that the something going on in H.264 video decoder...
when it had the same or near performance like CoreAVC will be nice xD

In software mode the performance of that decoder will be equal to ffdshow, it uses the same code from the FFmpeg project.

But in DXVA mode (which requires a compatible graphics card), the graphics card will do most of the work and the cpu usage will be very low (below 20%).
