Cannot play DVDs (4.0.0-4.0.4Beta) Haali Renderer

Postby XhmikosR on Sun Jul 20, 2008 11:23 am

Hi. I've noticed that with K-Lite Full version 4.0.0 and 4.0.4 beta I cannot play DVD Videos with MPC, WMP. In MPC when I try to open the video_ts.ifo it says "DVD: Macrovision Failed".

I didn't have such problems before so it must be something with the newer versions.

EDIT:

OK I found that this happens if I use Haali Renderer. If I use VMR9 there is no problem.

Yes, that is a known limitation of Haali's renderer. I'll make sure it gets added to the FAQ.

Is there no other workaround? I'm using MPC for DVD playback and I started using Haali renderer recently because it doesn't have incorrect black level problem and blocky red color problem like VMR renderers. I think I'll just install PowerDVD for playing DVDs

Have you tried the Overlay renderer? That should also give correct black levels.

Yes but all I get is just solid black color & audio (no picture at all). Maybe because I'm using Vista. Overlay renderer also switches Vista Aero to Vista Basic everytime the video is launched and it doesn't support internal MPC subtitle renderer (I know there are also DirectVobsub and ffdshow subtitle renderer but I like MPC internal renderer more  ) So it's a no-go for me and I think I'll stick with Haali because I don't play DVD movies too often anyway :)
